tree house

your norway spruce or white pine is planted in a handmade biodegradable paper pot made from cotton and peat moss.

follow these instructions for planting your new tree:

find an approriate location to plant your tree.

White Pine (Pinus strobus): Native long-needled evergreen. Tolerates partial shade while young, prefers full sun as a mature tree. Grows best in well-drained soils. Can be planted statewide.

Height: 50-80 feet
Spread: 25-35 feet
Leaf blade: 2-4 inches

Norway Spruce (Picea abies): European short-needled evergreen. Will grow in clay and loamy soils. Partial shade to full sun. Can be planted in most parts of New York except northern areas.

Height: 40 to 60 feet
Spread: 25 to 30 feet

Allow your tree a six foot growing area.

Dig a hole somewhat larger then your pot.

A hole is a mini-landscape. Examine the new space you have created.

Poke a few holes in your paper pot. Use a sharp object to gently poke a few holes in the sides and on the bottom of your paper pot. This will help drainage and biodegradability.

Place plant in hole. Fill with the remaining dirt or use a soil additive or compost. Pack the soil down.

Create a moat around the outside lip of you paper pot. This will collect water and make sure it gets to the plants roots.

Water slowly and generously. Water inside the paper vessel as well as in the moat to ensure proper biodegradibilty and getting water to the roots.

Water weekly during the first year if rainfall isn't adequate.
